Louisville Defender Newspaper Database

Saturday, October 15, 2022 - 02:00 PM - 03:00 PM

Founded in 1933 the Louisville Defender has covered life in Black Louisville for over 80 years. A vital resource to the history of the city and its events, the newspaper has covered important events such as integration, civil rights, local politics, and the Louisville Defender Black Expo. Highlights included Frank Stanley’s hit syndicated column, “Being Frank”, the photography of renowned photojournalist, Bud Dorsey, as well as the G.O.A.T. Muhammad Ali. This incredible resource has been digitized for patrons to learn about segregation, education, police violence, job opportunities of the past, student protests, and other firsthand coverage.

Join Kelly Dunnagan of the Kentucky History Room in learning practical tips and practices of how to best use this new database.
