Stayin’ trashy: The Art of Repurposing
PastSaturday, March 11, 2023 - 03:00 PM - 04:30 PM
Join COLLIDER Artist-in-Residence, Edwin Ramirez, for this workshop that will focus on turning trash into wearable art. Ramirez says: "As artists, it is crucial that we think about our processes and how we can minimize our impact on the environment. 'Trash' is an art medium that is highly underutilized. From food waste like pistachio shells, dried avocado, cherry, or peach pits, to plastic/paper packaging, junk mail, and even old clothing. During this workshop we will talk about various ways to use unconventional materials and inspire new ways to rethink how we consume, recycle, and give new life to things that may end up in the trashcan. Afterwards, we will create a wearable piece for you to take home! For those willing, at the end of the workshop we will take a group photograph to showcase our lovely trash couture for all to see! Participants are encouraged to bring 5-8 pieces of 'trash' they have accumulated in recent times. Please be mindful that the 'trash' you bring in is sanitary and ready to work with. Various materials will be available at the workshop for participants to use." This program is recommended for ages 8+. Registration is requested at Liz.Magee@lfpl.org.
